Early life and education of Lennie James

Lennie James, born October 11, 1965 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, is the son of Afro-Trinidadian parents. When he was just 10 years old, his mother Phyllis Mary James passed away. Following her death, he and her brother Kester James chose to reside in a children’s home rather than go live with a relative in the United States.

James spent eight years in foster care. He has British nationality and is of mixed ethnicity. The actor graduated from Ernest Bevin College. He had a passion for becoming a professional rugby player during his teenage years.

James went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 1988. At the time, he also helped run a campaign against the school’s initiative to rust another student. Speaking about the incident, James said in 2015:

“That involved me being taken in front of the head and threatening to boycott a big event for the mayor, even though the head said it would mean they’d kick me out.”

The actor was also once employed by the British government’s social security office.

Lennie James landed his first professional role as Bautista in a 1991 television series The Orchid House . His other previous television roles include DC Carl Tanner on A Touch of Frost , Steve on Love Hurts , and Kris on Cold Feet. He played DC Bruce Hannaford for one year (1995-96) in 12 episodes of Unexpectedly .

In 2000, James wrote the autobiographical television film, Storm Damage , which garnered a British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Drama Series. He also wrote a play Charlie Paul’s Children . The play was screened at the Royal Court Theater in 2004 in London.

While not acting, she spends most of her time cooking a variety of foods and has also stated a fondness for Caribbean cuisine. He is also a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur FC and Valencia Club de Futbol.

James has written a letter titled ‘letter to my younger self’ for The Big Issue magazine. She wrote about the pain of losing her mother at a young age in her March 2015 letter,

It hit me pretty hard. It had only been the three of us: my brother, my mother and me. Everything changed when the terrible thing happened. It had a profound and fundamental effect on me. One disappointment is that I never met my mother when she was an adult.

James’ favorite TV show is Hill Street Blues .
