He was born on August 12, 1983 in Voor-Drempt, Gelderland in the Netherlands. He is the son of Dirk-Jan and Maud Huntelaar. He has two brothers Niek and Jelle. At the age of five, Huntelaar, along with his two brothers, joined the local soccer team VV H. in K., where he played for the next six years.

Huntelaar was interested in soccer from a very young age. He was associated with the local soccer team VV H. en K at the age of five. There he enriched his football talent for six years. Later, being selected by De Graafschap as an emerging talent, he signed his first youth contract at the age of 11 on April 6, 1994.
