Ina Garten is an American author and host of the Food Network show, Barefoot Contessa, and a former staffer at the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Early age and education

Ina Garten was born on February 2, 1984 in Brooklyn, New York, United States. She was born to a Jewish family and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. Garten was one of two children born to Florence and Charles H. Rosenberg, an ENT surgeon.

Garten enrolled to excel in school, showed an aptitude for science, also uses that scientific mindset while experimenting with recipes. Ina described her father as a lively person with many companions and has commented that she shares more characteristics with him than her mother.

At the age of fifteen, Garten met her future husband, Jeffrey Garten, on a trip to visit her brother at Dartmouth College. After completing her high school, Ina attended Syracuse University, but put off her educational pursuit to get married.

In 1978, Garten quit his government job after seeing an advertisement for a 400-square-foot specialty food store called Barefoot Contessa in Westhampton Beach, New York.

Ina made a hasty decision to buy the store after traveling to see it and moved to New York to take ownership and management of it. The store was named for its original owner in homage to the 1954 film starring Ava Gardner.

Ina also established herself with her cookbooks and appearances on Stewart’s Show, then came to the forefront in 2002 with the debut of her Food Network show. After receiving the success of The Barefoot Contessa CookBook and BareFoot Contessa Parties.

In 2005, Miss Garten announced that she had signed a three-year deal with the Food Network to continue cooking on their cooking show, and will be releasing two more cookbooks after Barefoot Contessa at Home.

Personal life

Ina married her longtime boyfriend, Jeffrey Garten, on December 22, 1968, and soon the couple moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Since their marriage, the couple lives their life with joy. However, the couple have no children yet.
