Frances Louise Fischer is a British-American actress born on May 11, 1952 in Milford, Sea and Hampshire, England. She is best known for her portrayal of Deborah Red Saxon in the opera The Edge of Night, as well as her portrayal of strong women in television and film fraternity.
Born to parents William Irving Fisher and mother Olga Rosine, she had traveled widely, moving from city to city nine times by the age of nine, due to her father’s job. The family had moved to Colombia, Canada, Turkey, Italy, Brazil, and France when she was 15 years old. After her mother’s death, she took over the responsibility of caring for her family of two of hers, including her father and her brother. She completed high school from Lutcherstark High School located in Orange, Texas. She acted in stage productions at her high school and later took a job as a secretary.
She moved to New York to pursue her interest in theater and had a 14-year stage career participating in the Actors Studio. She also performed for the Barter Theatre. Stage roles for her include acting in the film’s finale and The Cherry Orchard.
The ABC daytime soap opera The Edge of Night portrayed her as Deborah Saxon and was her breakout role on television. She later appeared in other television productions such as Roseanne, Newhart, In the Heat of the Night, Matlock, Strange Luck, and Becker. She also played the role of Lucille Ball in Lucy and Desi, a TV movie. The series Glory Days, To Love and Die, Gray Anatomy, Two and a Half Men, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, CSI, Castle, and Cold Case also portray her.
After her film debut in Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?, Fisher appeared in other movies like Pink Cadillac, Welcome Home: Roxy Charmichael, Unforgiven, True Crime, House of Sand and Fog, Jolene, The Lincoln Lawyer, etc., her Notable film role includes acting as Ruth Dewitt Bukater, Rose’s mother in the hit film Titanic.
