Fran Drescher was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000 and was admitted to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Before the diagnosis, she saw eight doctors in two years, but they all misdiagnosed. For the treatment of the disease, she must undergo an immediate radical hysterectomy.
She has shared her experiences in her book called Cancer Schmancer to people aware of the early warning signs of cancer. She said,
I was going to learn what I needed to learn, ask questions, become a partner with my doctor instead of having some kind of parent-child relationship.
On the seventh anniversary of her operation on June 21, 2007 , she launched the Cancer Schmancer Movement (a non-profit organization) that helps ensure that all women’s cancers are diagnosed at the most curable stage.
