Eriq La Salle is an American actor, writer, producer, and director best known for his portrayal of Dr. Peter Benton on the NBC drama ER. He has been active in the acting field since 1985.
Early life, biography and education of Eriq La Salle
He was born on July 23, 1962 in Hartford, Connecticut to Ada Haynes (mother). She is of American nationality while her ethnicity is African American.
He enrolled in the Julliard School’s Drama Division. Later, he attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduate Program in Acting which led him to develop his acting skills.
Eriq La Salle’s Career
He then began his career after being cast in the production of Henry V. after passing out; He found various roles on Broadway as well as off-Broadway and his performances were highly regarded. He got his start on the television drama One Life to Live as Mike Rivers and then landed the role in the film Coming to America in 1988. Later, he was cast in the role of Dr. Peter Benton in the 1994 medical drama ER. The show, which lasted until the eighth season, he starred in it. He, too, returned to the show for its fifteenth and final season.
Apart from ER, he has also played the role of a Jamaican gangster in the independent film Johnny Was. The film that premiered at the American Black Film Festival in Miami made him even more popular.
