Synopsis

Edd China is an English television presenter, engine specialist, inventor, and mechanic best recognized on the Discovery Channel’s Wheeler Dealers show. He worked on the show from 2003 to 2017.

China is happily married to his longtime girlfriend, Imogen China. Despite being married for a long time, the couple has no children so far.

 

Early age and education

Ed China was born Edward John ‘Edd’ China on May 9, 1971 in London. He is of Caucasian ethnicity and has British nationality.

He attended King Edwards School, Witley in Surrey. With an interest in automobiles and mechanics from an early age, China followed a course in the same field, graduating with a degree in engineering product design from London South Bank University. Her first big project was the Casual Lofa (driving sofa) which she built to raise money for an expedition from Raleigh to Belize while she was in college. She also set her first Guinness World Record for fastest furniture with that creation.

Race

In 1994, Ed China landed his first television job as a special effects technician on Father Ted . Following his success as a technician at the show, in March 1999 he opened Cummfy Banana Limited, a shop for his creations and world record attempts.

 

In 1998, he appeared as a guest on Top Gear Live where he drove Casual Lofa at Silverstone Live Arena. His creation became so popular that he was featured on Jeremy Clarkson ‘s DVD The World’s Most Outrageous Jeremy Clarkson Video… Ever! Also, over the years, China made three appearances on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast driving the Casual Lofa, Street Sleeper and Bog Standard.

In 2000, he guest-starred in an episode of Junkyard Challenge (Junkyard Wars in the US) with driving beds and sofas. The same year that she appeared on a television show. This Is Your Life featuring Suggs , during which China gave presenter Michael Aspel a ride , around old haunts and finally dropping him into the studio at Casual Lofa.

In 2002, China was part of Build a Bond Car On A Budget, a Top Gear feature , during which he modified a Rover 800 bought for £200 with a Bond-esque device like an ejection seat for just £100. In 2007, he appeared in many shows including Fifth Gear , This Morning and Pulling Power , where he showcased his creations due to his Guinness World Record attempts.

Along with Penny Mallory , Alex Riley and Tony Mason , China hosted a television miniseries called Classic Car Club , broadcast on the Discovery Channel, a show for classic car enthusiasts about the history and culture of classic cars, which premiered in 2005.

From 2003-2017, China along with Mike Brewer hosted the Discovery Wheel Dealers program. She left the show due to the show’s direction disagreement and shared the news through her YouTube channel on March 21, 2017.

China holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest shed, bed, toilet, milk float, and largest motorized shopping cart. He ran a service shop and MOT in Bracknell, Berkshire called Grease Junkie, which he later closed in August 2016 due to his busy schedule. It was reopened as Motest in April 2017.

Personal life

Edd China married his longtime girlfriend Imogen China in a closed-door ceremony attended by friends and family. The exact date of their wedding and the details of how they met have yet to be made public, but according to sources, they shared a long-term relationship before getting married.

So far, the couple do not share children. They seem happily married and are often seen together in public places.
