Darijo Srna is a Croatian soccer player who was born on May 1, 1982. He plays for Shakhtar Donetsk as a captain and is also the captain of the Croatian national team. He is known for his free kicks and his ability to cross. He also plays as a right back and right midfielder. Darijo started his career at Hajduk Split after he moved to Shakhtar in 2003. He had won many trophies when he was at Shakhtar. He also won the 2009 UEFA Cup, the Ukrainian Cup, the Ukrainian Premier League and the Ukrainian Super Cup.

He made his international debut in November 2002 with Croatia. He was appointed captain of the national team in 2009. In the history of the Croatian national team, he was the player with the most caps. He had also represented the country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008, UEFA Euro 2004 and UEFA Euro 2012. Due Srna’s was signed by Hajduk Split and his professional football career started with him. When he was in Hajduk he won the 1999-2000 Croatian Cup, the 2000-2001 UEFA Prva Cup and also the 2002-2003 Croatian Cup. He made 83 appearances for Hajduk Split, including 63 league appearances. He had scored 8 goals. After that, he moved to Shakhtar Donetsk. Srna was sold to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2003. At first, he was the common member and also the captain of his club. He has had made 29 appearances in his first season for the club, including 19 league appearances scoring 3 goals. He had helped the club win the Ukrainian Cup.

In his second season, he made 42 appearances for the club, 22 of which came in the league. On September 14, 2004, he made his debut in the main stage of the UEFA Championship League against Milan. In the third season, he had made 21 appearances scoring twice. Shakhtar had won the Super Cup final against Dynamo Kyive on July 15, 2008. On August 3, he had scored the first goal in 3-0 against Illichivets Mariupol.

In November 2002 Srna made his full international debut for the Croatian national team against Romania. In March 2003 he scored his first international goal for Croatia in Euro 2004 qualifying against Belgium. After Euro 2004 he became one of the key players in Croatia’s 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign by scoring five goals. During the qualifying phase for the 2006 World Cup he had scored both goals of Croatia’s two against Sweden. After that, he had starred in all three games of Croatia’s 2006 World Cup campaign.

Marriage and personal life

Srna is the son of the Bosnian father Uzeir and the Croatian mother Milka are his parents. His father was an orphan from World War II and also a former soccer player for FK Sarajevo. He is married to his longtime girlfriend Mirela Foric (wife). He had met Mirela through a mutual friend, soccer player Bosko Balaban. The couple have a daughter, Kasja, who was born in July 2010. Srna is a well-built player with a height of 5 feet 9 inches and a weight of 77.1 kg. The current market value of it is 10,000,000 euros.
