Daniel Van Buyten, a Belgian footballer who plays as a defender for the current Bayern Munich team, was born on February 7, 1978 in Chimay, Belgium. His parents are his father, Franz, a popular Belgian wrestler and his mother, Renate, is German. He plays with the number 5 jersey of his team.

Van Buyten left Belgian side Standard Liege with whom he had played since 1999 and joined Marseille in the summer of 2001.
