William Theodore ‘Bill’ Walton was born on November 5, 1952, in La Mesa, California, to parents Gloria Anne and William Theodore ‘Ted’ Walton. He spent his entire childhood in La Mesa playing basketball with his brother Bruce Walton.

Bill attended Helix High School located in La Mesa, where he was active in basketball. When Bill was just 17 years old, he went on to play for the United States men’s national basketball team in the 1970 FIBA ​​World Championship.
