Former American basketball player and sportscaster, Bill Walton is considered one of the greatest post players in the history of the sport. He played for the Portland Trail Blazers , San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, and Boston Celtics during his playing career.

William Theodore ‘Bill’ Walton was born on November 5, 1952, in La Mesa, California, to parents Gloria Anne and William Theodore ‘Ted’ Walton. He spent his entire childhood in La Mesa playing basketball with his brother Bruce Walton.
Bill attended Helix High School located in La Mesa, where he was active in basketball. When Bill was just 17 years old, he went on to play for the United States men’s national basketball team in the 1970 FIBA World Championship.

Bill then attended UCLA in 1971. While Bill was at UCLA, his varsity team never lost a game from the middle of his junior year of high school to the middle of his senior year in college. He then went on to lead UCLA to win multiple games.
Later in 1974, Bill announced that he was ready to be drafted in the 1974 NBA draft. Thus, he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round as the first overall pick. Bill went on to play center for the Portland Trail Blazers.
He led his team to multiple game wins until 1978 when he left the Blazers for the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers. He played 14 games in 1979-80 and then scored a career-high 67 points in the 1984-85 seasons. He later went on to play for the Boston Celtics.
Bill had already suffered many ankle injuries and they were added quickly when he was with the Celtics, so his ankle problem became so severe that both ankles were surgically fused together.
He was recognized as USBWA College Player of the Year, NBA Top 50 Players of All Time, NBA Most Valuable Player, NBA Block Leader, NBA Sixth Man of the Year (1986 ), NBA Finals MVP, National 3 College Player of the Year. His number 32 was retired by the Portland Trail Blazers and also by UCLA.
