Gbaja has an American nationality and belongs to the African-American ethnicity. He is the younger brother of Abdul Gbaja-Biamila and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila , a former defensive end for the Green Bay Packers.
He attended the Crenshaw High School in Los Angels, California. Later, she studied at San Diego State University.

In 2003 , Akbar was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. After playing with the Raiders for three seasons, Akbar transferred to the San Diego Chargers in 2006, where he played for one season before moving to the Miami Dolphins . In 2008, he returned to Raider and was released to retire as a Raider.
In 2005, Gbaja was chosen as one of the NFL’s first athletes at its Broadcast Boot Camp. Before joining NFL Network and CBS Sports, he worked as an analyst for Mtn Network and CBS Sports Network for two years.
Furthermore, he made his acting debut in the genre film. The Sac Fly in 2015. Additionally, he was a fan favorite on the 2009 ABC adventure series Impossible Expedition.
