Mary Abigail Wambach, better known as Abby Wambach, is an American retired soccer player and coach who has been best known for being a two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion. She played in the forward position and is currently the all-time leading scorer for the national team. She also holds the record for international goals for the women’s and women’s category with a total of 184 goals in her career.

She played for both the Washington Freedom and the Western New York Flash and has also competed in four FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments after earning her first cap in 2001. She has also played in two Olympic tournaments in 2004 and 2012.
Abby is a six-time recipient of the US Soccer Athlete of the Year Award and is also a regular member of the US women’s national soccer team. She has played a total of 29 international matches and has scored a total of 22 goals total.
She received the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year award, thus becoming the first American woman to do so.
