Billionaire Philip Udala and convoy, killed by unknown Gunmen

The Chairman of Udala Football Club, Philip Udala,  alongside his club manager and envoy, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Anambra State.

The billionaire was murdered on Wednesday, July 14, by unknown gunmen, who ambushed his convoy at Eke-Agu Market junction in Abatete, Idemili North LGA of the state.

According to reports, the attackers initially hit a police facility in the area and were fleeing the scene when they ran into Udala’s convoy.

They reportedly opened fire on his convoy, killing all occupants of the two vehicles before setting it ablaze, with the deceased still inside.

Philip, his security detail, and Godsent Eriobu, the manager of Udala FC, were among those killed.

Chairman of Anambra Independent League (AIFL), Rev. Fr Obinna Dike, confirmed the death of Udala and his club manager yesterday saying: “The amateur league had lost two important members of the football family.

“So sad, our worst fears are becoming reality, we lost them,” he said in a text message to an online publication.

Anambra State Police Command also confirmed the incident but did not speak on the number of casualties.

In other news, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested a pastor identified as Omosebi Fred Adeola, for conspiracy, abuse of office, and misappropriation of funds.

The Pastor who was arraigned before Justice A.O Otaluka of the Federal High Court sitting in  Abuja was accused of allegedly diverting Church’s N15m for his Ph.D. and secretly enlisting his wife on Church’s payroll.

Adeola who is a Pastor of the Adventist Church and Country Director of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency of Nigeria, allegedly diverted relief funds for himself, including paying for his Ph.D. program at Babcock University and illegally enlisting his wife on the church’s payroll.
