This enthusiasm brought Martin back to college where he spent three graduate years at San Francisco State studying atmospheric science. After San Francisco State, he interned at KRON 4, then took a job as chief meteorologist at KFTY 50 in Santa Rosa in 1990. Moving to KPIX 5, Martin served as their morning show meteorologist for two years, leaving in the year 1995 at KTVU.

At that time, KTVU did not have a weather department, so he had the opportunity to create and grow KTVU’s weather brand, working weekends until Martin became the chief meteorologist. In 2014, after more than 25 years of weather forecasting in the Bay Area, he became one of six nationwide meteorologists chosen to go to the White House to interview President Obama on climate change.

The American Meteorological Society awarded Martin the CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) which is the highest level of certification available and is only given to a handful of meteorologists on the West Coast. Martin also received an Emmy statuette in 2015 for his work as a meteorologist. He continues to be fascinated by California history and the stories of the people who live here.
