10 Biggest Amapiano Song From Nigeria
We have compiled a list of the biggest Amapiano songs from Nigeria, ranging from Davido’s Champion Sound to Wizkid’s Bad To Me.
Twitter NG was literally full of violence yesterday, following the release of “Bad To Me”, Wizkid’s first single in two years. The song which is a mixture of Amapiano and afrobeat got multiple & mixed reactions from music across the country. Many fans and singers such as Tems, Blaqbones, Ayra Star, Crayon, and many more, noted that the track was a hit, while on the side are famous Twitter influencers, who in their usual resentment against Wizkid pointed out that the Track was trash.
Despite the mixture of reactions the song got, it still went to the top of the apple music chart in Nigeria. It also debuts on multiple charts across the World. This eventually elicited an argument concerning the historical background of the Amapiano genre in Nigeria. South African Star, DJ Maphorisa in an attempt to correct a Twitter user, who noted that Davido was responsible for taking the sound from South Africa, stated that Wizkid and Burna had hopped on the genre prior to Davido’s presence.
The face-off eventually led to a brawl between DJ Maphorisa and Davido, who said that the South African Dj had never liked him, despite always being good to him. In response to Davido’s accusation, DJ Maphorisa said he is not fighting the Nigerian Superstar, but just he is just adding to the Amapiano story because it’s a BIG story with many players. He also noted that this is a historical moment for South Africa, as the country never had a genre blow like this.
Other 2010’s stars like Mr. May D and KDDO also came out claiming to have brought the genre into Nigeria. Amidst the whole brouhaha, we have compiled a list of the biggest Amapiano songs from Nigeria. But before delving into that, there is a need to discuss the origin of Amapiano.
Origin of Amapiano In Nigeria
There is no doubt Amapiano originated from South Africa, they even fought Nigerians on Twitter in 2021, claiming that Nigerian Singers are stealing their culture. It is important to note that Amapiano is not the first cultural exchange between South Africa and Nigeria. There was a musical relationship between Fela Kuti and the legendary Hugh Masekela.
In this century, we saw the house music collaborations between Davido and Mafikizolo, DJ Maphorisa and Wizkid’s Runtown and Uhuru’s Banger, and the afro-fusion ravers from Burna Boy and AKA. But where exactly did Amapiano come in? Sincerely I don’t know. Maybe May D, Davido, KDDO, or Burna Boy, I don’t know
