She specialized in sports dramas. Bettina Gilois passed away on July 5, 2020, at age 58, at her Los Angeles residence, as a result of cancer.

Born on July 9, 1961, in West Berlin, then part of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bettina Gilois graduated from Columbia University with a BA in History in 1985. While studying, she had worked as an assistant to director Slava Tsukerman on Liquid Sky. Producer Joel Silver hired her for Warner’s script department. 

He made his writing debut writing Road to Glory , where Josh Lucas played Don Haskins, an actual basketball coach. He was followed by McFarland, USA , with Kevin Costner also in charge of a team, in this case of American football, who after being fired will guide some young athletes who appear in a cross-country race. In 2015, Bettina Gilois received an Emmy nomination for co-writing Bessie , the story of legendary blues performer Bessie Smith, played by her as Queen Latifah . Shortly before her death, she worked on  Muscle Shoals , a series produced by Johnny Depp . about a famous recording studio in Alabama.

Gilois also wrote books on boxer Johnny Tapia and painter Thomas Kinkade. For a long time he wrote for the Huffington Post, in the Culture section.
