Interviewer: Your list of accomplishments made me feel like a lazy person. How did you get there?
Ben Gleib: So slowly. It took a long time to build my CV in this company. You have to stay focused and never doubt yourself, and eventually all of these things start to add up. I remember like it was yesterday, being 23 and fresh out of college, and writing and pitching shows being turned down all the time.

I worked on one particular show for three whole years of college, and when I graduated, I decided to write a pilot project and pitch it to TV networks. No one wanted it and I had to pick up my coins and move on. Eventually the National Lampoon Network picked it up and it ran for three seasons.

Things continued from there. The following year I was cast in my first film, Bar Starz . Then, a few years later, I was asked to be on Chelsea Lately , where I stayed for seven years. Then I was cast as Marshall the Sloth for Ice Age: Continental Drift . Things happened and I never really stopped moving or looking for opportunities.

Interviewer: It’s hard to talk to you right now and not imagine a cartoon sloth holding the receiver on the other end. Anyway, how’s your game show going?
Ben Gleib: When the Chelsea Lately Show Ended, My Idiotest Showbroadcast. We have already made over 105 episodes since then. It’s crazy how things really came together. I’ve always wanted to host my own show, and this fulfills my ultimate goal of wanting to become a late night talk show host. Man, I couldn’t be happier. I have my own show and it’s amazing. The whole show is about making people look stupid and making fun of them; its my specialty. I want to host a late night talk show eventually, so that’s not a bad step.

Interviewer: How has Chelsea been working lately ? Is Chelsea Handler as ‘I do me’ as she seems?
Ben Gleib: She is exactly as you imagine her. She’s very outspoken and outspoken on and off set. She’s a fantastic woman and working with her has been great. You always had to be on your guard around her. She talks shit like crazy! She is a woman who defies things and lives as she wishes.

Interviewer: You are often asked to guest star on NPR and CNN to discuss politics. Who do you approve of as the next president?
Ben Gleib: Actually, I’m really undecided at this point. They all look really interesting. Bernie Sanders is extremely intriguing. I’m just trying to see what everyone is doing. However, I am definitely not voting for Trump.

Interviewer: Why not?! Who wouldn’t vote for a bizarre racist celebrity?
Ben Gleib: This guy is absolutely crazy! He is not one to run for politics.

Interviewer: You just wrote an interesting op-ed on Donald Trump for the Huffington Post…
Ben Gleib:Yeah, for some reason a lot of people misinterpreted it and thought I was approving of it, when in fact I was on the opposite end of that spectrum. I really said something like, “Electing Trump would surely lead to World War III.” I said he was very interesting and the way he talks about politics is very interesting because it is unvarnished and gets a lot of criticism. When he debates after debates and interview after interview saying he is confident in his relations with Syria and Russia because, “Well, I have such a good relationship with them. They’re going to like me,” that’s not really such a good plan, because it shows that he really does get along with the worst of everyone.

Interviewer: How important is it to bring comedy into things that aren’t so light, like the dirty world of politics?
Ben Gleib: One of the best ways to attack truth and power is to crack jokes. If you wanna tell the truth, you better make it funny, or they’ll kill you.

I think people like to laugh, and they can take in the honest truth more when they laugh. It’s just a good way to emphasize things. Everything is just a little more effective when there is laughter.

Interviewer: Interesting. So how does your mind turn serious issues into comical and ever-provoking?
Ben Gleib: I’m pretty pro-marijuana, of course.

Interviewer: Is this your official endorsement for weed?
Ben Gleib: I will endorse it publicly. In fact, the basis for a segment of a web series I did was a fictional movie theater in Colorado that served weed, it was called “Trinidope.” It was fictional… at the time. Six months after filming this, Colorado opened a cannabis theater.

Interviewer: How is your creative process?
Ben Gleib: My process is definitely quite scattered and varied. I keep a notebook and always write down all my thoughts that might lead to a skit. I mostly have good ideas in the middle of good conversations, on a date, or even in the middle of sex. I just like to pause and write it down.

Interviewer: What? It sounds awful and rude. This is not a good creative process!
Ben Gleib: No, all you have to do is keep your lower half moving. You can always grab your phone and jot down some notes. It’s multitasking.

Interviewer: I guess you can use the line “You are my inspiration”…I guess.
Ben Gleib: Yeah, ‘You’re my muse, baby!’ Sounds pretty bad to think about fun things during this time, doesn’t it? This doesn’t seem like the time to be the butt of a joke. Inspiration comes when it comes.

Interviewer: Ready for Bag?
Ben Gleib: I want people to come see the show! I promise not to talk much politics at all, just willing to share my strange observations of the world with your town. Also, ready to eat that farm-to-fork food I hear about.
