Béji Caïd Essebsi (Arabic: باجي قائد السبسي ), born on November 29, 1926in Sidi Bou Saïd and died on July 25, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the military hospital in Tunis at the age of 92, is a Tunisian lawyer and statesman. He is the current and fourth President of the Republic. This lawyer by training had done his legal studies at the Faculty of Law in Paris until 1950 before registering on the board of the Bar of Tunis, two years later. Béji Caïd Essebsi was charged with important government responsibilities between 1963 and 1991. In 2012, he founded his own party, Nidaa Tounes, with the aim of bringing together the opposition. Despite attempts to exclude him from political life because of his membership in the RCD , he led his party to victory in the 2014 legislative elections and then won the presidential election.

- On October 3, 1952, Béji Caïd Essebsi was sworn in at the office of lawyer Fathi Zouhir and began to plead after a few weeks.
- In 1956 and after the independence of Tunisia, he became adviser to Bourguiba.
- In 1957 and before turning thirty, he was commissioned by the Neo-Destour to lead the electoral campaign for the constituent assembly.

- After the Jasmin revolution and precisely on February 27, 2011, Béji Caïd Essebsi was appointed by the president of the provisional government Fouad Mebazaa as prime minister in place of Mohamed Ghannouchi who was forced to resign.

- On June 16, 2012, he announced at the Palais des Congrès in Tunis his decision to create a political party of which he became president on June 29, 2012 during the meeting of the provisional commission. On July 6, 2012, the party officially obtained its authorization.
