Beau was born Lloyd Vernet ‘Beau’ Bridges III on December 9, 1941 in Los Angeles, California, United States to Dorothy Bridges and Lloyd Bridges. His mother, Dorothy, was an American actress and poet, while his father Lloyd was an American television actor. Beau is of American nationality and white ethnicity. Beau spent most of his childhood with his siblings named Jeff Bridges, Cindy Bridges, Garrett Myles Bridges, all of whom were actors or actresses. He was raised as a Christian.
Beau had wanted to pursue an acting career and performed at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He later transferred to the University of Hawaii. In 1959, he joined the United States Coast Guard Reserve and served for eight long years.
