Borrowing the title of one of his best-known films, it can be said that he specialized in playing “Ordinary People”. Basil Hoffman, who had important roles in titles such as “The Artist”, and was under the orders of Mario Monicelli, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford and Alan J. Pakula, died in Los Angeles, on September 17, 2021, at 83 years.

Born on January 18, 1938 in Houston, Texas, Basilio Harry Hoffman graduated in Economics from Tulane University and graduated in Economics. But he dreamed of dedicating himself to acting, so he spent two years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, in New York, where for several years he participated in theatrical productions.

Basil Hoffman spent a decade dedicated to the scene, before beginning to appear on film, in titles of enormous impact, such as Mortadella , All the President’s Men , Encounters in the Third Kind , There Comes a Free and Wild Horseman , The Electric Horseman and the aforementioned Ordinary People , by Robert Redford , who brought him back for A Place Called Miracle .

Married to Christine Elizabeth Reed, the marriage was close until her death in 2006.

He did not stop working even as the years passed, and he was already of advanced age when he played an auctioneer in The Artist . While playing characters on screen, Basil Hoffman worked as an acting coach and teacher. He wrote three acting books titled “Cold Reading”, “How to Get Good at Acting” and “How to Get Good at Acting 2”. He left the film Lucky Louie pending release , which was in post-production when he died.
