Her father Arnold Nathan Herzestein was a horse racing columnist and her mother is Melrose. Her father was Jewish and her mother was of Irish descent. During her school time, Barbara Hershey was very shy and quite so that people thought she was deaf. When she was 10 years old, Barbara decided to prove herself to an outstanding student.
