BIOGRAPHY OF BARBARA CORCORAN

Barbara Corcoran (middle name Ann) is an American businesswoman, investor, author, and television personality. She is popularly known as an investor in the TV show Shark Tank. Besides her busy career, she manages to be a consultant and columnist for popular magazines.

She was raised in Edgewater, New Jersey. She went to a local Catholic elementary school. She then joined St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. After graduating from high school, Barbara enrolled at St. Thomas Aquinas College where she successfully graduated with a degree in education in 1971.

Shortly after graduating, she taught school for a year and then landed various jobs, including a side job renting apartments in New York City.

Corcoran began his career in the 1970s with real estate. She then became a television personality as a “Shark” investor on ABC’s Shark Tank.

As she ardently wanted to be her own boss, she co-founded with her boyfriend a real estate company called Le Corcoran-Simonè. Simon had contributed a loan of $1,000 which served as start-up capital.

When she separated from her boyfriend years later, she founded her own company, The Corcoran Group. Knowing the real estate industry inside out, she started publishing the Corcoran report. The report covered trends in real estate data in New York.

In 2001, Corcoran sold its entire business to real estate giants NRT. The value of the transaction was estimated at $66 million. But according to Bloomberg, the company was valued at $4 billion.

Barbara is a columnist for More Magazine, The Daily Review and Redbook. She has also written many books and has appeared on several shows including Larry King Life. She has been invited as a guest speaker at various real estate events.

Corcoran is also a business consultant. She does her consulting and television production business through her company Barbara Corcoran Inc. She is the real estate contributor to NBC’s Today show. She hosts a television show, The Millionaire Broker with Barbara Corcoran on CNBC. Barbara also writes a weekly column for the New York Daily News.

Corcoran has invested in the three-time Emmy Award-winning show Shark Tank for nine seasons. She secured over 50 deals on the show, her biggest deal being with the Coverplay company for $350,000. His average investment is $103,113 and the median value of his investments is $75,000. While on air, she pledged over $5.4 million in investments.

Corcoran’s story of weed to grace is also the main subject of his bestselling book, Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 Into a Billion Dollar Business! The book was launched in 2011. Just a year and a half after Shark Tank premiered.

The book was co-authored by Bruce Littlefield, with whom she collaborated on a previous book, If You Don’t Have Big Boobs, Put Ribbons in Your Braids: And Other Lessons I Learned From My Mom. The 320-page book is hailed as a national best seller and received fabulous reviews.
