Talking about his personal life, Carlile is the son of his restaurateur father and his mother, Pamela Carlile a gardener, who died at the age of 38 when he was a teenager, due to an aneurysm and had a syndrome of Undiagnosed Marfan, a condition that Carlile inherits genetically – affects his connective tissue and causes weakness in his heart, lungs, ears, joints and muscles, as well as his aneurysm.
Pamela’s death disappointed Carlile of the Catholic faith, but he was baptized late and has identified as a Christian ever since (July 3, 2016).
Since his stay in Costa Rica, some visiting ministers have prayed for him and the symptoms of his condition have subsided, enabling him to live an active and healthy life again.
In 2018, it was announced that former Of Mice & Men singer Austin Carlile was sadly back in hospital with complications from The Syndrome. Carlile shared that cerebrospinal fluid leaked into his head, forcing doctors to find and drain the fluid:
A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak (several of them in the past) has been building up in my head this time around. Pockets of fluid build up between my skull and my skin causing swelling in different areas every day. Discover, drain, repair, evaluate, repeat. Where, what, why? Infection of said cerebrospinal fluid? Intro: Broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics given daily. Observe. No more blood cultures, watch. Currently on day five, two hospitals, MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, EKGs, ultrasounds, blood work, etc. I am back at Stanford University Hospital with my specialists for further observations and testing. I was just here Friday for a sleep/pain study but had to come back when another team at the hospital couldn’t help my unique case/situation. Another step. Another obstacle that Marfan Syndrome throws in my way. Another day, I can kick him in the face and remind him that he doesn’t own me, nor can he hold me down for good.

CAREER OF AUSTIN CARLILE
Austin Carlile attack attack!
Carlile formed Attack! (originally called Ambiance) circa 2006 when Johnny Franck, Andrew Whiting, Nick White and Andrew Wetzel met Carlile while playing in local high school bands.
In 2008, part of the way through a tour supporting Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Confide, A Static Lullaby and Showbread. Carlile was supplanted by Nick Barham, brother of Sleeping With The Sirens drummer Gabe Barham. Carlile said it was for “individual reasons” that he left the band.
Austin Carlile Of Mice and Men
On October 8, 2009, Carlile announced that it was not, at this point an Attack! track, he officially announced the formation of his new project, Of Mice and Men, with Jaxin Hall (bassist). Their first release was “7,000 Miles for What?”.
They also previewed Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ and then shortly after released ‘No Really, It’s Fine’. Soon after, Austin and Jaxin began rounding up the other band members.
The band enlisted a few members of actually existing bands, for example, Phil Manansala (lead guitarist) from A Static Lullaby and Valentino Arteaga (drummer) from Lower Definition.
Their self-proclaimed debut album was officially announced to be released on February 23, 2010, but was delayed to March 9 to complete creation.
In 2010, Austin was unable to visit Of Mice and Men, as he was expecting to undergo major heart surgery and his well-being prevented him from visiting. Jerry Roush of Sky Eats Airplane replaced Austin.
Roush then became a durable substitute, significantly after Carlile had the opportunity to visit him again.
In September 2010, shortly after Craig Owens fled from Chiodos, rumors that Carlile would supplant him quickly sank, however, were debunked when Brandon Bolmer was announced as the lead vocalist.
A fake tweet of Carlile’s record was produced, making it seem like Carlile would be joining Chiodos as a vocalist.
Carlile rejoined the group on January 3, 2011. In November 2012, following the death of Suicide Silence singer Mitch Lucker, Carlile appeared on Ending Is the Beginning: The Mitch Lucker Memorial Show singing the song “OCD”.
Early in the morning of March 30, 2013, Carlile was captured in Bowling Green, Ohio with drumming expert Lionel Robinson II, he was later charged with felony ambush.
The band missed two gigs on the “Directly Back at It Again” tour with A Day to Remember and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! then. Carlile’s snap came out two days later.
Carlile was released on bail and asked not to have contact with the person in question. On April 29, 2013, Carlile’s sole charge of criminal ambush was reduced to an offensive attack by Designated Authority, and he was therefore found liable.
He was fined $1,000 plus court costs, despite the $800 fine being suspended.
In October 2016, the band pulled out in the middle of a European tour so Carlile could seek clinical treatment after facing torment while performing in Portsmouth.
In late November, Carlile explained in a progression of tweets that as a sufferer of Marfan Syndrome he wouldn’t “beat this” and that he had undergone numerous surgeries “to make sure I can work/live.”
On December 30, 2016, Austin Carlile posted an open letter to his Instagram and Twitter expressing that he was leaving the band to focus on repairing, moving forward and showing signs of improvement after moving to Costa Rica, saying, “…with one entrance closing, another will open. He also said that he “won’t stop playing music” and that he was “always ready to sing and I’m hungry for what’s next to come despite the fact that I have no idea what it could be.”
It was discovered on February 17, 2017 that one of the other reasons Carlile left the band was because he was not allowed to deposit what he needed for the next account.
In response to an Instagram remark about whether or not he would work with Of Mice and Men, he later said, “No, I’m never going to deal with them again, one of the reasons I left .
They weren’t going to let me configure what I needed on the next account. It won’t happen. I will compose what I need despite what it means to surrender.
In August 2018, separate rumors spread about Austin Carlile saying he was going to join Linkin Park as a replacement because of the death of Chester Bennington a year ago.
The singer, through a post on Twitter, denied these rumors and claimed that he was currently working on a new project.

RAPE AND SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS: FORMER MOUSE & MEN SINGER AUSTIN CARLILE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT
On June 9, 2020, former Of Mice and Men singer Austin Carlile was charged by multiple individuals with sexual assault. Additionally, in one of the victims’ social media posts, they accuse Alternative Press of not publishing a story about the charges after the outlet published a story about Carlile earlier in the week.
One of the accusers, Caitlin Stiffler, shared a lengthy statement on Facebook detailing the allegations and calling out Alternative Press for not reporting more than 15 different stories shared with the publication regarding Carlile’s behavior.
“He not only raped girls, probably more than anyone knows, but he was also a predator seeking out underage girls using his position in the music industry to do so. He threatened you with legal action and you backed off. I get it, who would want to be involved in this when you could just…not,” Stiffler wrote.
Her account was corroborated by her husband.
“A few years ago, realizing the extent of the damage done, I organized a group of (MANY) women who had been raped or sexually assaulted by @austincarlile over the years to be interviewed by @AltPress. I knew him personally, worked in the scene and married one of his victims,” Jonathan Stiffler tweeted.
Alternative Press responded to the accusation that the story was buried, saying “the story could not go as it was told. As a female-led, lgbtq+ writer, we’ll reopen this and find the answers you’re looking for. We do not tolerate any of the accusations and this story will be heard. ‘
Carlile’s former band members released their own statement, in which they did not name him but said they “absolutely condemn sexual violence and harassment in all its forms.”
Representatives for Carlile did not immediately respond to SPIN ‘s request for comment. Alternative Press released a lengthy statement on the situation and explained more of what’s in the decision.
Carlile left Of Mice and Men in 2016 to focus on his battle with Marfan Syndrome.
You can read the full text of Stiffler’s post, which has since been deleted from Facebook, below.
Remember when over 15 girls shared their stories of this serial rapist with you? Because I do. I was one of them. Now you not only want to share HIS nonsense, but you want to put his name next to Jesus? No, just no. I’m not fine.
The alternative community has been following you for YEARS. I followed your stories so closely throughout high school and saw my artist friends featured in your magazine. To be contacted by you to share my story, in hopes that it wouldn’t continue to happen to other girls, felt like a dream. Finally, there was something I could do, given that law enforcement told me there was nothing else I could hope for without physical proof. I never thought anyone would believe me or take this seriously, so there was your magazine asking us to share.
He not only raped girls, probably more than anyone knows, but he was a predator seeking out underage girls using his position in the music industry to do so. He threatened you with legal action and you backed off. I get it, who wants to be involved in this when you could just…not. It was your choice, a choice neither of us had. We cannot just let go and forget. For my part, I had hoped that you would at least stop presenting it. I guess I was wrong to expect that.
It needs to be CANCELLED. Get him out of the faces of those kids who believe he’s a good person who deserves recognition. »
