Augusto Algueró Jr.

Augusto Algueró is one of the most illustrious representatives of popular music in Spain. He composed well-known songs for several generations of Spaniards, such as “La chica Ye-ye”, “Penélope”, “Noelia” and “Tómbola”. Many of his songs have been featured in blockbuster movies. Algueró died on Sunday, January 16, due to respiratory arrest, while he was sleeping, in Torremolinos (Málaga).

Born on February 23, 1934, Augusto Algueró Dasca from Barcelona was the son of a musician. He studied at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory at the same time that he graduated in Medicine.

He began his career as a composer at the beginning of the 50s, almost always together with the lyricist Antonio Guijarro. His services were soon requested by illustrious singers, such as Joan Manuel Serrat , for whom he composed “Penélope”. Other singers succeeded with his compositions, such as Nino Bravo (“Noelia”), Concha Velasco (“La chica Ye-Ye”) and Marisol (“Tómbola”).

In addition, he composed numerous soundtracks for films such as Zampo y yo , El ruiseñor de las cumbres , Historias de la televisión , Marisol rumbo a Río or Las chicas de la cruz roja .

After divorcing the famous actress Carmen Sevilla , with whom he had a son, he joined Natividad Benito.
