  • Atiku pledged to eliminate Boko haram everywhere if elected
  • No fewer than 51 Boko haram members have surrendered to the Nigeria army today
  • Atiku promised to construct more roads for the North-easterners

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, made a pledge to eradicate Boko Haram extremists from Nigeria if elected president of Nigeria in Gombe State.

This comes as Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, the head of the PDP’s presidential campaign council, criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the nation’s economic collapse and rising insecurity.

Atiku claimed to resuscitate the nearly-defunct Dadin Kowa Dam in the state for the purposes of enhancing irrigation facilities for agricultural development and electricity. He also promised to empower businesses in the state and increase employment possibilities for youngsters.

The former vice president, whose speech drew cheers, pledged to expand the road system and revive Abubakar Tafawa Belewa’s legacy because the majority of the audience members were not present when the late prime minister lived.

Speaking in both Hausa and English languages, Atiku said, “Let me reiterate the promises we made if, by the grace of God, you supported the PDP in the presidential election, we promised to empower your to expand so that they can expand their businesses for our youths

“We also promised you that the Dadin Kowa Dam, which was built by the PDP to provide electricity and irrigation is activated for electricity and irrigation is provided if you support the government of the PDP.

“We will make sure that all the roads linking Gombe to Adamawa with Borno, with Bauchi, with Yobe all these roads are reconstructed for the purposes of enhancing trade and commerce.

“Many of you were not born at the time the late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was in office. You now have another opportunity to produce another Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in me.

“Most especially, is peace, without peace all these pledges that I made cannot be actualized without peace. I promised to return peace to Gombe. I will wipe out Boko Haram. Book Haram is nothing. We have wiped out Boko Haram in Adamawa, what will stop us from wiping out Boko Haram in Borno or Yobe or anywhere they are in this country? Therefore, give us the mandate.

“When Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was Prime Minister, most of you were not born. Don’t you want another Tafawa Balewa in the northeast? This can only be actualized by voting PDP and here I am the one that will give you the opportunity to have another Tafawa Balewa.”

We earlier reported that no fewer than 51 Boko Haram terrorists surrender in Borno As the Nigerian military intensifies its campaign against terrorism in the area and in the Lake Chad region, Boko Haram rebels have continued to give up in the terror-torn North-East.

More so, a counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed in Maiduguri, yesterday: “Preliminary investigation of the military revealed that the insurgents came out from Sambisa forest. The terrorists had been hiding and waging campaigns of terror from the forest.”

According to him, over 90,000 terrorists and their families in the North East have already surrendered to the Army.

Military sources in Maiduguri said: “The sustained onslaught on the terrorists with kinetic and non-kinetic approaches led them to massively surrender. The state government has already established four camps for their rehabilitation and integration into communities.”
