ASUU Strike: Are The Students Even Ready To Resume?
The Good News is that ASUU has finally agreed to Call off strike, but are the students even ready to resume?
It’s is no longer News that the striking lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Universities Union (ASUU) have agreed to resume academic activities.
This was disclosed on Friday, at a meeting with the government team led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja.
The agreement was reached following the Federal Government decision to increase its offer to the union to N70B.
With high optimism hinting towards resumption of academic activities, it paces a much bigger questions.
Are the students ready to resume?
As minute as this questions may sound, it is exquisite that it is discussed
Recall that ASUU had discontinued all academic activities since March as they tussle with the FG over IPPIS.
Also, the Federal Government declared a Nationwide lockdown of all institution due to the ravaging Covid-19 Pandemic.
We thank God things are better now but, that also makes it that students have stayed home for over 8months.
Most of them are idle while some are engaged in businesses or “hustle” as it is so called.
Only a few or close to no student have been engaged in academics activities over the past 8 months.
By design of the brain, we can say most students may not even remember what was taught last semester or before the lockdown and strike.
On the other hand, universities would be very intentional about making up for the already bastardized academic calendar.
Hence, may want to rush students through lectures, tests and examinations before the years runs out.
Now, based on the opinion gathered, many students do not want school to resume this year as they clamour that they are psychologically and financially buoyant.
In a way, these reasons are justified, but does it mean school shouldn’t resume nevertheless? Would school resuming next year, change anything about what they clamour still?
As a student, are you ready to resume?
Let’s hear your opinion in the comment section.
