Assassination Accusation Shocker: Akpabio Demands Probe of Senator Natasha Over ‘Dangerous Lie’

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, calling for the urgent investigation and prosecution of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over what he described as a “heinous and fabricated” assassination claim.

In the petition dated April 3 and copied to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Akpabio accused the senator of defamation, incitement, and spreading falsehood capable of disrupting public peace and undermining democratic stability.

This development follows an explosive allegation by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a homecoming event in Kogi State on April 1. At the rally, she alleged that Akpabio directed former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and current Governor Usman Ododo to plot her assassination—an act she claimed would be framed to look like it came from rival politicians within her constituency.

In a swift and stern reaction, Akpabio flatly denied the accusations, branding them as a “calculated blackmail” and an attempt to smear his character with zero evidence. He warned that the allegation, which had already gone viral online and across traditional media, posed a serious threat to national security.

“This is an outright falsehood, politically charged and dangerously misleading,” Akpabio stated. “It’s a desperate move to stir chaos and put my life at risk.”

He urged law enforcement to invoke criminal defamation and other relevant legal provisions to address the situation, warning that public officials should not use propaganda to score political points.

Akpabio stressed that unchecked incitement could tear down public trust and destabilize the democratic system.

“This goes beyond politics,” he said. “It’s about holding leaders accountable for reckless statements that can spark unrest and divide the nation.”

The petition further intensifies tensions within the National Assembly, especially in the wake of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent suspension, which many see as politically motivated.
