Arthel Neville was born on October 20, 1962 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father is Art Neville, who is the founder of the New Orleans musical groups The Meters, as well as The Neville Brothers. He has American nationality.

Arthel attended St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans. After graduating, she decided to travel to New York to pursue acting and modeling as a career. Later, Ella Arthel was seen in a few commercials before landing a recurring role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.
