STAND UP YOU HALL ARSENIO

In an interview, Hall was asked what triggered his decision to return to stand-up and he replied, “I always wanted to do it, but the longer you stay away the wall of fear grows. . I remember I went to see my mate George Lopez a few years ago just to hang out and he was like, ‘Why don’t you get up and do five minutes?’ I thought, ‘I can’t do five minutes!’ You can’t get me off the stage anymore. It’s funny how young comics tried to keep me coming back. They’re doing to me what I’m doing to Eddie right now. I keep telling him that when the ‘Coming to America’ sequel comes out, we should hit the clubs. You want to share it. It’s like a great pickerel restaurant with great pickerel McNuggets; you want everyone to try them.

DROGUES ARSENIO HALL

On May 5, 2016, Hall filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against Sinéad O’Connor after he claimed Hall fueled Prince’s drug addiction and also spiked his drink at a party at Eddie Murphy’s. Prince died in April 2016 at the age of 57.

In February 2017, Hall dropped the lawsuit after O’Connor apologized and withdrew his allegation that Hall had supplied drugs to Prince.

In his statement of apology, O’Connor said: “I apologize for my Facebook posts about Arsenio Hall to the extent that someone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince’s drug dealer and to supply him with illegal hard drugs, or to insinuate that Arsenio had something. to do with Prince’s death. I sincerely apologize because these statements would be false, and I unequivocally withdraw them. ‘

ARSENIO HALL GAY

In 1991, Hall had a heated exchange with gay rights activists from Queer Nation after he went on hiatus from his show. Protesters were angry with Hall for not featuring gay guests on The Arsenio Hall Show . In the exchange, Hall took a tough pro-gay stance, which was rare on television.

You think I didn’t get anyone on my show because they’re gay? What’s wrong with you, man? ‘ Hall shouted at a protester. “The one thing I wouldn’t do is discriminate against a guest because of their sexual preference. To be honest with you, there are a lot of gay guests on this show, but you don’t want them to be gay. ‘

In 2014, Hall gave an interview to cable network Logo, explaining why the protests bothered him so much. “It’s because I knew who I was. I knew a lot of my friends wouldn’t come to my defense when everyone was in the closet,” Hall says. “I can give you 20 guests on my show in a month [who were gay], but they weren’t talking about it. Luther Vandross does not mention it. He can’t at that time. Louie Anderson can’t then. Ellen can’t then. Rosie can’t then.
