By the time he left Cuba for good, Chapman had a girlfriend named Raidelmis Mendosa Santiestelas. Interestingly, he left just three days after Santiestelas gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Ashanti Brianna, whom he never got to see before defecting. Although mother and baby later joined him in the United States, the relationship later broke down.
After his relationship with Raidelmis Mendosa Santiestelas ended, the next woman Ardolis dated was Cristina Barnea. The relationship between the two became known in 2014 and she was publicly known as Tina, (as Cristina Barnea is also known) was open about it on social media.
Nonetheless, in 2015, the relationship appeared to have hit rock bottom and police were invited to the MLB star’s home because there was a domestic violence case against him. According to reports, Tina Barnea found something on Chapman’s phone that she didn’t like and she decided to confront him. In retaliation, she said he pressed her against the wall before she escaped into the bushes and called the police. The MLB star also made 8 shots; 7 in the wall of his garage and one through the window.
The two would soon patch things up and stay much closer still. Although there is no evidence that the two are married, Tina, with whom the baseball player shares a daughter – Angelina Chapman, describes herself on social media as a wife and mother.
Chapman also has another son, Atticus Gabriel Chapman who was born to him on June 30, 2014 to an unknown woman.

AROLDIS CHAPMAN PITCHING STYLE
Directory
With a three-quarter delivery, Chapman is currently throwing three pitches: a four-seam fastball averaging 99–100 miles per hour (159–161 km/h), a slider averaging 87–88 miles per hour (140 at 142 km/h) and an occasional change. Chapman’s fastball averaged 100.3 miles per hour (161.4 km/h) in 2010, but that figure dropped to 98.6 miles per hour (158.7 km/h) in 2011 and 97 8 miles per hour (157.4 km/h) until August 2012. This more modest speed may be part of an attempt to better control his fastball.
In 2015, Chapman’s fastball averaged 99.98 miles per hour (160.90 km/h). That same year, Statcast revealed that Chapman had thrown the 62 fastest pitches of the season, topping 103.92 miles per hour (167.24 km/h).
Both pitches have extraordinarily high odor rates of 33% for the fastball and 58% for the slider. These gave Chapman a career nine-inning strikeout percentage of 14.66 as of August 2012, second all-time by Craig Kimbrel , and the third-highest career shot percentage for swing hits ( 16.5 %).
Scouts were concerned about his control issues and lack of a strong third pitch, noting that those issues could affect his ability to be a Major League starter. However, Chapman’s control seems to have improved.
After walking 41 in 50 innings the previous season, Chapman walked just 23 batters in 2012 of 71 two ⁄ 3 innings.
Speed records
According to MLB scouts, Chapman’s fastball was clocked as high as 169 mph (during the 2010 minor league season).
On September 24, 2010, against the San Diego Padres, Chapman was clocked at 105.1 mph (169.1 km/h), according to PITCHf/x, which is the fastest pitch ever in Major League Baseball . On July 19, 2016, Chapman tied his previous record of 105.1 mph when he pitched Baltimore J. J. Rugged .
On April 18, 2011, Chapman threw a pitch to Pittsburgh Andrew McCutchen that the Great American Ball Park scoreboard reached a speed of 170 mph (170.6 mph), although Fox’s broadcast box Sports Ohio lists it as 169 mph and the PITCHf/x system calculated an exit speed of 102.4 mph (164.8 km/h). The disparity between these speeds has been widely discussed and questioned.
Mechanical
Sports Illustrated writer Joe Posnanski describes Chapman thus: “There’s no violence in his movement; he’s like the anti- Bob Gibson in that way. Just a slow start, one smooth move, and BLAMMO the ball fires like the Batmobile coming out of the cave. A more technical analysis reveals that
- Chapman breaks his hands late, so his arm gets involved late.
- He shifts his weight before he breaks his hands.
- Chapman goes low and creates a huge leg workout.
- Upon landing, he quickly splints his front leg and hip.
- He also powerfully flexes his trunk forward on his landing knee.
A scout noted that while “[t]here are no obvious flaws in Chapman’s delivery… Chapman has to coordinate a lot of moving parts,” which can limit his consistency. Chapman’s extreme pitching speed may also pose a risk of injury to his pitching arm over time.
