Of Norwegian descent, his appearances on screen were impressive, where he exuded talent. She shone alongside James Mason in “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” Arlene Dahl, one of the last survivors of classic Hollywood, died at the age of 96 on November 29, 2021. “She has been the most positive influence in my life,” recalls her son, also an actor Lorenzo Lamas. “I will remember her laughter, her joy and her dignity with which she faced the challenges she had to face throughout her life. Never a bad word came out of her mouth. Her ability to forgive sometimes left me speechless. She was a true force of nature, and as I got older, I turned to her more and more as my life counselor.
Born on August 11, 1925 in Minneapolis (Minnesota), Arlene Carol Dahl –her full name– took education and dance lessons as girls, and participated in school performances at Margaret Fuller Elementary School. After finishing high school, she began her journey as a model, in New York, for the Walter Thornton agency. She then went to a casting call to star in the play “Questionable Ladies,” which she saw on a Hollywood cast. He got her a contract to intervene as a secondary in Recursos de mujer .
After the 1947 box-office hit My Wild Irish Rose , MGM offered Arlene Dahl a long-term exclusive contract. Under the umbrella of the company of the lion, she intervened in titles such as The reign of terror , The world belongs to women , Bengal rifles or La vividora . She is remembered above all as the energetic and intelligent Carla Goteborg, a widow who joins an expedition to reach the heart of our planet, in Journey to the Center of the Earth , an adaptation of the Jules Verne novel , which was well received commercially. in 1959.
Divorced from fellow actor Lex Barker , Arlene Dahl didn’t have much luck in love. She was together with Fernando Lamas –Lorenzo’s father–, Christian Rasmus Holmes III –with whom she gave birth to another child–, Alexis Lichine, and Rounsevelle W. Schauum –with whom she had her third and last baby–. Her most stable partner was the businessman Marc Rosen, who accompanied her from 1984 until her death.
Starting in the 1960s, Arlene Dahl was relegated to lower-budget titles, such as the comedy Besos para mi presidente , or the western Al infierno, gringo . In Night of the Warrior , she shared the screen with her offspring, the aforementioned Lorenzo Lamas . At the end of her career, she was relegated to appearances on television series such as Fantasy Island and Holidays at Sea . She retired in 1999, after appearing in an episode of the series Air America .
