Arise Tv fined by NBC over broadcasting fake news on Tinubu
Arise Television has been fined a sum of 2 million naira, by National Broadcasting Commision (NBC), over reportedly broadcasting fake reports on The All Progresive Congress Presidential Candidate (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had petitioned NBC to sanction Arise News over the fake reports.
The petition signed by the Special Adviser, Media, Communications and Public Affairs of the PCC, Dele Alake to the Director-General NBC Balarabe Shehu Ilelah accused the station of breaching the broadcasting code.

In the petition, Alake noted the purported indictment of Tinubu as reported and discussed on Arise News had already been cleared in correspondence between then Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun and the US government.
The sanction was contained in a letter dated 13 November 2022 and addressed to the management of the station.
The letter signed by the Director General of the Commission noted that the station failed to comply by the broadcasting code for airing a press statement purportedly signed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The commission noted that the infraction was allowed to happen despite its recent sensitization programme for all broadcasters.
Arise TV had earlier apologised on Sunday after reporting the Independent National Broadcasting Commission (INEC) was investigating Tinubu over alleged criminal forfeiture of money on offenses bordering on narcotics and illicit drugs.
INEC at the weekend denied the statement on which Arise TV based its report.
