One of the serious and talented medical doctors in Nigeria’s online space is Aproko Doctor; the doctor, however, on his Twitter page revealed to his over 1 million followers the danger of consuming partly spoilt tomatoes Nigerians buy from the market.
While trying to explain the danger, the doctor successfully gave reason people buy the partly spoilt tomatoes; it is not as if people who buy the partly spoilt tomatoes really prefer them to the other ones but their choice is being propelled by their purchasing power.
If they were well to do financially, the last thing they would do is prefer the fresh ones to the partially spoilt ones.
According to the doctor, rotten tomatoes contain fungi with the name aspergillus that when consumed can lead to cancer; more so, he said boiling the partly spoilt tomatoes won’t stop them from causing the harm they are meant to cause.

Research also said that most rotten tomatoes also grow mold on their bodies and serve as an abode for worms and maggots too. These worms are maggots or larvae of common houseflies which deposit their eggs when they perch on the tomatoes. Maggot-infested tomatoes cause bacterial poisoning and can lead to death when consumed.
