April Ashley was a British model, actress and author. In 1961, she was presented as a transgender woman by the Sunday People newspaper. Additionally, in 1960, she became the second British woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery between male and female.

APRIL ASHLEY: BIOGRAPHY, FAMILY, CAREER
The model was born on April 29, 1935 as George Jamieson in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. She was born as the child of six children to Roman Catholic father Frederick Jamieson and his Protestant wife Ada Brown. She has a British nationality and belongs to the white Caucasian ethnicity. During her childhood, she had suffered from both a calcium deficiency for which she needed weekly calcium injections and bedwetting.
At 16, she joined the merchant navy before undergoing a sexuality operation. But she received a dishonorable discharge after attempting to kill herself. After undergoing gender reassignment surgery at the age of 25, she returned to Britain with April Ashley and entered the modeling industry. Additionally, she had a successful model appearing in British Vogue.
Subsequently, she also appeared on screen by winning a small role in the 1962 film The Road to Hong Kong. In 1961, when her friend sold her transgender story to the media, she gained media attention by giving up her movie credit. However, she had received a few awards and accolades, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Liverpool.
APRIL ASHLEY: PERSONAL LIFE AND HUSBAND
The 86-year-old transgender has been married twice and also divorced. She first married an aristocrat Arthur Cameron Corbett in Gibraltar in 1963. However, her relationship with Corbett did not last long and divorced in 1970. Their separation was a watershed moment in legal history when the judge determined that she remained a biological male and that changing gender legally was impossible.
Consequently, their marriage became null and void in Corbett’s court against Corbett. She then married for the second time to a man named Jeffrey Wet. The ex-couple married in 1980 and divorced a decade later in 1990.
In 2005 she returned to Britain decades later when she was legally recognized as a woman in light of the Gender Recognition Act. Moreover, at the age of 25, she had undergone a successful seven-hour gender reassignment operation in Casablanca, Morocco, for which she had saved £3,000. Moreover, she had told the story of the rape in her book The First Lady in which she was seriously injured. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 86 on December 27, 2021 following a heart attack in London.
