- While attending high school, he met his future The Black Eyed Peas band member William Adams (stage name will.i.am), who was the nephew of his adoptive father’s roommate.
- He grew up in the Philippines under poor conditions. He often had to help his mother grow corn, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, and rice on the farm.
- His living conditions improved after Pearl S. The Buck Foundation found him a sponsor, Joe Ben Hudgens, a US-based attorney. The foundation supports abandoned or orphaned American children through various programs.
- After visiting Disneyland, he decided he wanted to stay in the United States. Although it would have taken three more years for Hudgens to legally take over Apl.de.ap, he moved to Hudgens permanently at the age of 14.
- At the age of 14 he traveled to the United States to be treated for nystagmus, a condition characterized by involuntary movement of the eyes.
- In 1988, while he was in college in eighth grade, he teamed up with will.i.am to form his first rap band. And four years later they were signed to Ruthless Records.
- Allan and will.i.am added Dante Santiago to their band and renamed it Atban Klann and put their debut album together. grass roots . However, the album could not be released due to the death of the label’s founder, Eazy-E.
