BILLIONAIRE ANTONY RESSLER AND LAURENCE FINK: SUCCEEDING IN FINANCE
Transcription
Ares, I think we would call or we would call an alternative asset manager. Our job is of course to manage money on behalf of individuals and institutions and of course our job is first and foremost to try to invest effectively over the long term for our investor base, whoever they are, whoever whatever assets they may be interested in. our business in particular, it’s really split between three. Semi-autonomous pools of capital, one focused on both liquid and illiquid credit, another focused on private equity and the other focused on real estate assets. Our job is to invest successfully for the long term and to continue to perform and grow. What about the Greek god of war? Well, as I have to admit we started, I guess I started in the investment business after Drexel with a company called Apollo Management and we started in June 1990, which was the god of Heeley. And we started as a credit arm of Apollo in 1997. And we needed a separate brand. We were trying to use the mythological narrative and we wanted to start with an A because we like when our name is left versus right. And we needed a separate brand. We were trying to use the mythological narrative and we wanted to start with an A because we like when our name is left versus right. And we needed a separate brand. We were trying to use the mythological narrative and we wanted to start with an A because we like when our name is left versus right.
And I know everything. There you go we found some areas of course when you do your homework and find out it’s the god of war and not a very attractive god but we’ll move on to other important stuff and don’t have us hurts so often. there is longevity, I can help you spin it if you want. Yes and we have been doing this for 20 years and I have you. Alright Larry and Black Rock.
It’s quite similar to how Tony described dairies as an investment and resettlement organization where we manage large pools of cash. And our job is to improve people’s financial futures. No money belongs to us. It is individual money and institutional money. We have a huge responsibility. We have to take on this responsibility every day and, due to our size, we manage asset classes across the spectrum. And you know we have them. Significant commitments from major entities around the world who place their trust in us. So our job is to deliver the positive returns they seek every day. Our job is to give them an overview of the resources we have. We have unique information that allows us to offer a differentiated service. But you know the baseline is very similar with Tonis that our job is to produce returns on investment so that people have a better financial future in their lives.
So the number six point three trillion is mind-boggling, as Judy said. I remember when you passed a trillion I thought that was a lot. You are often asked the question Larry, but is it too big and you say it’s not your money, it’s everyone’s money. But is there a risk inherent in such a size?
Well, we get to know about hundreds and hundreds of different clues or liabilities. I answer the question in two ways: yes, we are at a grand if we don’t do the job that customers expect of us. We’re too big if we don’t produce the returns or meet our customers’ expectations. And I would say that over the last few years, our growth is accelerating. We earn more assets because we provide the returns our clients seek and the insights they have. But a big one on a macro basis, we actually shrunk. Due to the global financial markets, the growth is actually faster than BlackRock’s. And as global financial markets grow.
