He played very secondary characters, but he was nominated for the Golden Globes. Antonio Sabato, Sr. passed away at the age of 77 on January 6, 2021, after testing positive for COVID-19. The news was spread on social networks by his son, also an actor Antonio Sabato Jr., popular in the United States for the CBS soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful”, and for his unconditional support for Donald Trump. “Ciao Papa,” he wrote.

Born on April 2, 1943, in Montelepre (Palermo, Italy) he began in the world of cinema in his country, with Lo scandalo (1966), a forgotten drama about the love affairs of a group of friends. He then emigrated to the United States, where he played Nino Barlini, a Grand Prix racer in John Frankenheimer ‘s , which had an ensemble cast headed by James Garner  and  Eva Marie Saint . For his work he received a Golden Globe nomination, for the most promising young actor of 1966.

Perhaps he would have gone further if he had stayed in Hollywood, but Antonio Sabato decided to return to his country and specialized in spaghetti-westerns, such as  Beyond the Law ,  I arrive, I see, I shoot ,  Judas twice , or  I kill them, you you collect the reward , among others. 

Married to the Czech Yvonne Kabouchy, they had two children, Simonne, and the aforementioned Antonio Sabato, Jr.  In the mid-1980s, he moved with his family to California, where he devoted more time to painting and family life while continuing to star in co-productions international, such as Escape from the Bronx (1983) or A Stroke of Luck (1997). His intervention as an army captain in the Tuareg stands out , a discreet adaptation of the best-seller by Alberto Vázquez Figueroa .

His last screen work consisted of several appearances in the telenovela Belleza y poder (1987), which also featured his son.
