Thomas was born to a Jamaican mother and an English father, David Thomas , an opera singer. She grew up with her siblings Chloe Lucy Thomas , a journalist, and Emma Jay Thomas , an actress.
Thomas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in Bristol, England in 2009, joining the National Youth Theatre. She is a highly skilled painter and did a course at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.
