“Anton Yelchin passed away this morning in a fatal accident,” said Jennifer Allen, his representative. “His family asks that his privacy be respected at this time.” Apparently the actor’s body was found at his home on June 19, 2016 by friends who came after he missed a rehearsal with his rock band. The police have confirmed that the body of the 27-year-old man was found at his Studio City residence, in the mud of San Fernando, in Los Angeles, crushed by his own car against the brick wall of the mailbox. The vehicle was running, in neutral. “It appears that she had gotten out of his car and followed him when the vehicle rolled down a steep driveway,” the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) statement explains.

Anton Viktorovich Yelchin was born on March 11, 1989, in the Soviet Union, two years before it officially ceased to exist, in the city of Leningrad, which would later revert to the name of Saint Petersburg.

His parents, Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin, were famous ballet stars. In 1972 both managed to qualify for the Winter Olympics, but the communist authorities forbade them to participate because they were Jews. With such oppression, it is not surprising that six months after little Anton was born, the couple decided to emigrate to the United States.

An only child, Anton Yelchin started acting as a child, and in fact at the age of eleven he took part in an episode of ER . Later he played small roles in films such as 15 minutes and La hora de la araña . At 12 his consecration came, as the protagonist of Hearts in Atlantis , adaptation of a Stephen King novel , where he was the type opposite the always immense Anthony Hopkins . Movie fans confirmed the talent of that young actor who played Bobby Garfield, the son of a widow who welcomed a mysterious stranger into her house.

Not surprisingly, Nick Cassavettes later gave him one of the lead roles in the chilling Alpha Dog , where he was a fifteen-year-old kidnapped by a young drug dealer. He was based on a real character who had a traffic ending. Critics of his work were especially appreciative.

His Russian origin was a determining factor in his being chosen to play his compatriot Pavel Chekov, navigator and youngest member of the Enterprise crew, in Star Trek , an update of the galactic saga directed by JJ Abrams . He also had a leading role in another installment of another famous science fiction franchise, Terminator Salvation , where he played the very young Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor, leader of the human resistance against the machines. And in Fright Night , a remake of an ’80s hit, he plays a boy who discovers his neighbor is a vampire. In the meantime, he had time to play the son of Mel Gibson in The Beaver.

A fan of playing the guitar, Yelchin played in the unknown punk group The Hammerheads, until it dissolved. In 2007 he enrolled in Film at the prestigious University of Southern California. He has the thriller Odd Thomas , by Stephen Sommers , pending release , in which he is the absolute star along with Willem Dafoe .
