Anthony Gasset
Second nephew of the philosopher José Ortega y Gasset, Antonio Gasset Dubois from Madrid was born on May 19, 1946. He began to dedicate himself to the cinema at the end of the 60s, when he participated as an actor in Handicap , a short film by Manolo Marinero. He would repeat this facet in titles such as Un, dos, tres, al escondite inglés and Arrebato , by Iván Zulueta , and in Gary Cooper, que estás en los cielos , by Pilar Miró . He also worked as an assistant director for shorts by Ricardo Franco and other authors. He shot his own, The Habits of the Arsonist , starring Emma Cohen , in 1970.
In 1994 he began his journey as head of the “Días de cine” program, with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón as presenter, but when she left the program, he decided to replace her himself. Soon, Antonio Gasset , achieved enormous popularity, due to the peculiar sense of humor that he exhibited in his intros, with caustic phrases for the story, such as “And now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to talk about Spanish cinema” or “To go to the movies with this billboard you have to have a negative IQ.”
His programs were relegated to ungodly hours, but he played it down with humor. “A program dedicated to entertaining victims of insomnia, night owls, couples in crisis, polydrug addicts, and even some movie fans, is about to begin.”
“It was one of the happiest times of my life in every way,” recalled Antonio Gasset , who left RTVE in 2007, taking advantage of an employment regulation file. In 2011 he was recognized with the Alfonso Sánchez Communication Award by the Film Academy.
