She began her journalism career in 1979 serving for WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana, until 1983. Subsequently, she became a consumer reporter for NBC affiliate KSDK-TV, Saint Louis, Missouri from 1983 in 1986. Then she moved to Detroit and worked at WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate, from 1986 to 1997.
In 1997, NBC News hired Anne as a national correspondent. Later from 2005 to 2007, for the network, she became chief financial correspondent, then covered issues on the economic impact of Hurricane Katrina and the trials of Martha Stewart. She was then promoted to environmental correspondent in April 2007 and has covered many economic and environmental issues. Additionally, she covered the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the Catholic Church. Additionally, she also traveled to South Korea to report on the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

She received two Gerald Loeb Awards for Business Journalism in 2004 and 2006 for ‘The Jobless Recovery’ and ‘The Katrina Effect’ respectively. In 2017, she won an Audubon Society “Rachel Carson Award” for covering reports of the BP spill and climate change.
