As if a good fairy godmother had flicked her magic wand over her, Anne Hathaway became a princess with her first job. The children’s public received her with open arms, while now it is the adult who discovers her talent. She wins over each other with her wide smile.

Anne Hathaway was born in New York on November 12, 1982. Her mother, Kate McCauley, is a stage actress, and her father, Gerard Hathaway, a lawyer. Anne shares her artistic concern with her siblings; the older one is a writer and the younger one is an actor. The young Hathaway grew up in New Jersey, where she attended college, although she loves New York. So much so, that it is there where she has her residence. As she herself has declared, she is in Los Angeles only for work, because she does not like that city. She jokes about it that she has very fair skin and can’t get the California sun.

Initially the girl made her debut as a singer. She was a member of a choir with which she performed twice at Carnegie Hall, though she soon left this occupation to pursue acting. In 1999 she made her television debut in the seriesFamily matters . The jump to the cinema took place just two years later when she was chosen to star in the Disney filmSurprise princess . Reporting to Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman ), and with Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music ) as a co-star, Hatthaway entered the world of celluloid on the right foot. She debuted with a leading role and the family comedy was quite successful. She subsequently starred in two dramas: The Other Side of Heaven (2001) andTHE LEGEND OF NICHOLAS NICKLEBY (2002). Later he recovered the idol image for the children’s audience thanks to his role in Bewitched (2004), a new family title. The story took place in a magical world populated by fairy godmothers, ogres and princes. Following in her wake for all audiences, Hathaway repeated inSurprise Princess 2 (2004). In this title, the fear of finding out heir to the throne of a country gave way to the need to find a suitable husband. Her connection with the world of children continued with the animated filmThe incredible but true story of Little Red Riding Hood (2005), where she lent her voice to the renewed protagonist of the story. A dubbing that served to exploit another of her qualities, since she sang a song from the soundtrack.

Discreet with her private life, her boyfriend since 2004 is Raffaello Follieri, a businessman. With her eyes on her future, and perhaps fearing that the principality would end up suffocating her, Hathaway radically changed register in her next project, Havoc (2005). The ideal young woman became a troubled girl who ends up involved with some drug dealers. The cut with the most childish version of her was radical. The gap had been opened, as she took it upon herself to demonstrate the next title of hers,Brokeback Mountain (2005). Ang Lee cast her to play the wife of Jake Gyllenhaal ‘s character , in which she was her first supporting role. Still, she remembers it as one of her most rewarding jobs. Just a year later, her popularity was long established in comedy. The devil wears Prada . The character of the young journalist who works for an obnoxious fashion editor gave her the opportunity to work alongside her admired Meryl Streep , and to make herself known to an audience of no age limit. Her wish had been fulfilled, as she, Anne, affirms that what she likes most about her profession are the new challenges, far from being pigeonholed. This is how Young Jane Austen was raised(2007), which is now in theaters. In this biographical drama, she gets into the shoes of the British writer responsible for novels such as ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and ‘Pride and Prejudice’. The actress recounts: “I reread all of Jane’s work and a few biographies. I also read critical essays about her, her letters and researched the Regency period. I read everything that came my way. There came a time when the director ripped the books out of my hands, because I kept pointing out details that were incongruous with the script and with the times.”

This period story will give way next year to a new range of generic possibilities. The actress has a premiere pendingPassengers , a drama about the survivors of a plane crash, and Superagent 86 as a movie , a comedy where the popular 99 will be. From what we have seen, it seems that there is no genre that daunts her, nor work that tires her. At this rate, the children’s princess can end up becoming one of the queens of celluloid.
