Anne Francis starred in numerous films in the 1950s. She is especially remembered for the lead female role in Forbidden Planet , a cult film among science fiction fans. The actress herself died on January 2, 2011, at the age of 80, as a result of pancreatic cancer, in a nursing home in Santa Barbara.

Born in Ossining (New York), on September 16, 1930, Anne Francis began as an advertising model as a child. She also worked in numerous radio serials, and she made her Broadway debut while still very young. At 16, she signed a permanent contract with Metro Goldwyn Mayer. She debuted with an anecdotal role in This Time for Keeps , and soon after she was briefly seen in Jennie , where she was a teenager appearing in a museum.

At the beginning of the 50s, he went to 20th Century Fox, where he was given more prominent roles, in titles such as A lion in the streets , Prisoner of his betrayal , Conspiracy of silence , and above all Seed of evil , where he played the wife of Glenn Ford , who was an idealistic teacher trying to connect with the youth of a troubled school.

But her best-known role is that of Altaira, the female lead in Fred M. Wilcox ‘s Forbidden Planet , inspired by William Shakespeare ‘s “The Tempest” . Altaira was the only survivor of her along with her father of all the colonists of the planet Altair-4. A spaceship crew led by John J. Adams ( Leslie Nielsen ) travels to the location to find out what has happened.

In the 1960s, Anne Francis concentrated more on television, playing roles in series such as The Fugitive , or Alfred Hitchcock Presents . She also starred in her own series, 1965’s Honey West , in which she was a martial arts detective.
