Ann Curry was born on November 19, 1956 in Guam, United States, which makes her nationality American. She was born to her parents Bob Curry who is from Colorado and her Japanese mother Hiroe Nagase. Curry has four siblings in total. Living most of her life in Japan, Curry graduated from Ashland High School after moving to Oregon in the United States. After graduation, she attended the University of Oregon where she earned a BA degree in journalism.

In 1978, Ann started her career as an intern at KTVL, which was actually an NBC affiliate channel. After that, she joined NBC affiliate KGW in Portland. Four years later, she started working as a reporter at KCBS-TV. For her reporting on the channel, she also received two Emmy Awards. Formally in 1990, Curry joined the NBC News and started working as a correspondent, then she became an anchor in the NBC News at Sunrise.
