Andy Whitfield’s story has been very tragic. He was a complete unknown when he was cast as the lead in “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.” When the series became a huge success and fame ensued, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that finally killed him on September 11, 2011.

Born in Amlwch, the northernmost town in Wales, on October 17, 1971, Andy Whitfield worked as an engineer, before embarking on the adventure of fulfilling his dream of devoting himself to acting. He worked on various Australian television series, such as All Saints or The McLeod Sisters .

In the cinema he was the protagonist of Gabriel , a science fiction film. She also starred in The Clinic , an Australian thriller. In 2010 she landed the leading role in the series Spartacus: Blood and Sand , known for its gory and erotic excesses.

When the second season was being prepared, the actor was diagnosed with the disease. His health was so bad that he had to be replaced in the lead role by Liam McIntyre . Whitfield passed away at the age of 39, next to Vashti, his young wife.
