Andrew V McLaglen
Andrew V. McLaglen, an efficient and craftsman film and television producer, specializing in the western and war genre, who worked with classic actors of the gigantic stature of James Stewart and John Wayne, has passed away at the advanced age of 94.

McLaglen was the son of one of John Ford ‘s favorite supporting actors , Victor McLaglen , which means that he imbued the passion for movies from early childhood. Born in London in 1920, he could not learn filmmaking from a better teacher than Ford, and in fact was an assistant director on one of his most iconic titles, The Quiet Man .
His directorial debut was a western, Gun the Man Down (1956), which, although B series had Angie Dickinson and one of the actors from the Fordian “troope”, Harry Carey Jr. in the cast. presence in legendary television series such as Gunsmoke and Perry Mason .
His films may not be indisputable classics, but he did direct absolutely classic and indisputable actors, especially male ones. He had James Stewart under his orders in The Valley of Violence (1965) and A Lady Amongst Cowboys (1966), while John Wayne repeated with him five times, The Great MacLintock (1963), The Fighters from Hell (1968 ), The Indestructibles (1969), Chisum (1970) and The Rope of the Gallows (1973). Other great actors who were under his command are Clint Eastwood , Richard Harris , Richard Burton, Kirk Douglas , Gregory Peck and William Holden .
Among his war films, it is obligatory to cite a classic, Wild Ducks (1978), about a group of mercenaries who must mount a rescue operation in Africa, and the television miniseries on the civil war Blues and Grays (1982). The desire to remain active led him to participate in two sequels to the classic Dirty Dozen and The Bridge on the River Kwai , absolutely dispensable. In recent times, he even directed, resisting retirement, theater shows on the island of San Juan in Washington where he resided. He was married 4 times and had 4 children.
