Andrew Prine
He lavished himself especially on the western, coming to work with John Wayne, the king of the genre. Andrew Prine died in Paris on October 31, 2022 of natural causes while on vacation with his wife, actress and producer Heather Lowe, at the age of 86. “He was a sweet prince,” commented the widow.
Born on Valentine’s Day 1936 in Jennings, Florida, Andrew Prine graduated from Miami Jackson High School before attending the University of Miami on a drama scholarship. He did not finish his studies there, as he preferred to move to New York to pursue acting. He was lucky, because they recruited him to replace Anthony Perkins himself, in “Look Homewark”, a Broadway play. “They took me because he was very thin, so he gave the type for the character. I must have put my head in this profession to my diet,” he commented years later in an interview. “I spent two years playing that role, and it got better every day, it was like they paid me to learn acting.”
While he was still in that set-up, scouts at Universal were pleasantly surprised by him, so they offered him roles in Los Angeles. “At first I thought I could try movies, see how I got on, and then I’d go back to Broadway. But then I found out how much money they paid me to ride horses in Hollywood, and I said goodbye to Broadway.” In 1964, he played the incredulous brother of Richard Kimble ( David Janssen ) in the first season of ABC’s The Fugitive .
He mostly appeared in westerns. In the 1960s, she guest-starred on Bonanza. The Virginian, Wagon Train, Daniel Boone , and Lancer , often doing their own stunts. “I’ve been in a lot of accidents, as we call them, and I’ve broken my knees and shoulders trying to do stunts I shouldn’t have done and wasn’t qualified to do,” says the actor. He played an ally of the rancher tycoon played by John Wayne in Chisum . Additionally, he was the brother of Hellen Keller, in the hit The Anna Sullivan Miracle .
Andrew Prine was active for many years. In 2005 he starred in two episodes of CSI , directed by Quentin Tarantino . He retired in 2015, after the unknown film Beyond the Farthest Star , where he played a senator.
