  1. His parents were advised to use him as a. To abort, doctors were of the opinion that the child would be born with a disability. However, his mother chose to defy her advice, and Bocelli later credited his mother as his inspiration for his opposition to abortion.
  2. He was born with impaired vision and was eventually diagnosed with congenital glaucoma.
  3. At the age of 12 he was introduced to a soccer game while playing as a goalkeeper in a soccer game. A brain hemorrhage ensued and the doctors decided to use leeches to save his sight. However, they failed and he lost his eyesight completely.
  4. After his nanny gifted him the recording of FrancoCorelli, he expressed interest in becoming a tenor. By the age of 7, he recognized the voice of well-known singers and often tried to emulate them.
  5. At the age of 6 he started taking piano lessons. He later learned to play saxophone, guitar, drums, trombone, trumpet and flute.
  6. He gave his first concert performance in a small village near the village where he was born.
  7. At 14 he had managed to win the first singing competition when he performed O only Mio in the Margherita d’Oro in Viareggio.

His breakthrough came when the Italian singer and musician Zucchero organized auditions for tenors for the demo tape of his single. Miserere what he wanted to send to the Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti. After hearing Bocelli’s tape, Pavarotti advised Zucchero to use Bocelli instead of him in the original recording.
  11. He was signed to the Sugar Music label after the record label’s president heard him sing Miserere and Nessun Dorma at Zucchero’s birthday party. Bocelli accompanied the rock star on his European tour in 1993.
  12. Together with his brother he founded the Bocelli Family label, an award-winning wine collection. The wine is made from grapes grown on his family farm.
