BIOGRAPHY OF ANDREA BOCELLI

Andrea Bocelli is a blind Italian tenor, singer-songwriter and record producer. He holds the Guinness World Book record, his classic album “Arias”, which simultaneously occupies the first three places in the American classic albums chart.

 

He started piano lessons at age 6 and later learned to play flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar and drums. His nanny Oriana gave him Franco Corelli’s first record, and he began to show interest in pursuing a career as a tenor. At age 7, he was able to recognize the famous voices of the time and tried to imitate the great singers.

Andrea graduated in law from the University of Pisa. He began his career in the late 1980s when he started performing in piano bars all over Italy. He signed his first singing contract in 1993 after a boy scout heard him singing at a party.

He has recorded 15 solo studio albums of pop and classical music, three greatest hits albums and nine complete operas, selling over 80 million records worldwide. He collaborated with people like Luciano Pavarotti and Sarah Brightman and sang for the Pope. Her popular hit is “Con Te Partirò [Time To Say Goodbye],” a duet with Brightman.

 

On March 4, 2006, he was awarded the Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for taping at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on March 2, 2010.
