1. Ashley first surfed when she was 5 years old.
2. When she was 6 years old, she won her first surfing competition with a board that was in bad shape and was thrown in a dumpster outside her house.
3. At the age of 6, she and her mother moved from Southern California to live 5 minutes from the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
4. To practice surfing, Ashley borrows her boyfriend’s board.
5. When Ashley was 7 years old, her determination drove her to sponsor a new surfboard.
6. At age 10, she began competing in amateur surfboard events against women much older than her.
7. In 2008, at the age of 21, Ashley lost her mother to an illness known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or ALS. This disease causes progressive muscle weakness.
8. After her mother’s death, Ashley took some time off and went to Puerto Rico, where she spent a month to get life back on track.
9. From a young age, Anastasia also took part in boys’ surfing competitions to compete with her peers. She could beat the guys who later became professional surfers.
10. Besides her surfing career, Anastasia also took school lessons very seriously, preparing test papers for herself and constantly revising them.
